1,700+ Trans Kansans lost their IDs

The most extreme anti-trans law in the country.

🪪

IDs Invalidated

Trans Kansans who legally updated their driver's licenses had them revoked overnight with no grace period. They were ordered to surrender their IDs immediately.

🚫

Bathroom Ban

Trans people are now criminally liable for using bathrooms in government buildings that match their gender. Fines, misdemeanor charges, and lawsuits await.

💰

Bounty System

Private citizens can sue trans people for $1,000+ if they feel "aggrieved" by their presence in a restroom. Government-sanctioned harassment.

🗳️

Disenfranchisement

Because Kansas has strict voter ID laws, invalid IDs means trans Kansans may be unable to vote until they surrender and replace their documents. Check or update your registration at KSVotes.org ↗

No Public Input

Republicans used a "gut and go" maneuver to bypass all public hearings and testimony. Kansans had no chance to speak before their neighbors were targeted.

Being Challenged

The ACLU of Kansas filed suit immediately. Courts are being asked to block this cruel law while the case plays out. Help fund that fight.

The ACLU is suing to strike it down.

On February 27, 2026 — one day after SB244 took effect — the ACLU, ACLU of Kansas, and Ballard Spahr LLP filed Doe v. State of Kansas in Douglas County District Court.

What the lawsuit argues:

  • SB244 violates the Kansas Constitution's protections for personal autonomy and privacy
  • Invalidating valid IDs without due process is unconstitutional
  • The "bounty" provision chills freedom of movement in public spaces
  • The "gut and go" maneuver violated legislative procedure requirements
